Acids can etch marble. A honed finish does not make it immune to etching, and a sealer does not prevent every kind of mark. Follow suitable stone-care guidance and discuss your expectations before choosing. A stain is discolouration in the stone; etching is a dull surface mark caused by acidic contact. They need different care responses.
